The Local Tavern
Project Overview
Setting the Table Before the Feast
The Local Tavern is set to become Atlanta’s newest destination for upscale neighborhood dining, offering a diverse culinary mix ranging from steak and seafood to pizza and tacos. However, with the menu still in development and physical assets being finalized, the brand faced a critical timing challenge. They needed a digital presence immediately to legitimize the business to partners and future staff, without waiting for the full content library to be ready.
The mission was to create a "Lean but Powerful" launch vehicle. We needed to design a professional "Coming Soon" microsite that established immediate brand credibility, balancing an elegant aesthetic with an approachable vibe, while actively building a list of future guests and potential employees before the doors opened.
Challenges & Goals
The Challenges
Asset Vacuum: Launching a visual brand without final food photography or a complete menu required a strategic design approach that wouldn't look empty or unfinished.
Tone Balance: The site needed to walk a fine line—reflecting an "upscale" experience without feeling stuffy or inaccessible, mirroring the diverse menu.
Pre-Launch Utility: A simple splash page wasn't enough; the site needed to function as a recruitment tool and a lead generation engine from Day 1.
The Goals
Visual Cohesion: Leverage the existing logo colors (#798f70 Green, Black, White) to create a consistent identity that feels established.
Audience Capture: Implement clear Calls-to-Action (CTAs) for email sign-ups to build a "Waitlist" marketing database.
Recruitment Funnel: Build dedicated "Join the Team" pages to attract high-quality staff during the pre-opening phase.
Strategy & Approach
Phase 1: Brand Translation
We translated the client's logo into a full digital style guide. I selected Oswald for headings to match the clean, bold character of the brand mark, paired with Work Sans for body text to ensure high readability. The palette was anchored in a sophisticated Sage Green (#798f70) and Charcoal to convey the "upscale casual" atmosphere.
Phase 2: Lean Architecture
Instead of building a massive site filled with "coming soon" placeholders, we focused on three high-impact pages: Welcome, Join the Team, and Contact. This streamlined approach ensured every click provided value, whether for a potential diner or a job applicant.
Phase 3: SEO Foundation
We didn't wait for the grand opening to talk to Google. We implemented robust local metadata and structured data early. This strategy ensures that by the time the restaurant opens, it will already be indexed and ranking for Atlanta dining keywords.
