Keeping the Hive Buzzing Amidst Construction
Abejas Golden is a beloved farm-to-table bistro in downtown Golden, celebrated for its community ethos and seasonal menus. However, facing looming block-wide construction that threatened physical foot traffic, the restaurant needed its digital presence to work harder than ever. The existing website was outdated and cluttered, failing to convert digital visitors into dining patrons efficiently.
The mission was to streamline and modernize. We needed to cut the fluff, creating a refined, high-impact website that prioritized the menu and reservations above all else. The goal was to maintain the brand's signature warmth while projecting a clean, "high-end" aesthetic that kept the tables full, regardless of the construction outside.

Physical Barriers: With construction blocking the street, the website had to aggressively drive destination traffic via reservations, rather than relying on walk-ins.
Content Sprawl: The previous site suffered from unnecessary pages and disjointed information (separate About/FAQ), increasing the cognitive load for users.
Visual Fatigue: The outdated design didn't reflect the fresh, seasonal nature of the food, creating a disconnect between the plate and the pixel.
The Goals
Action First: Architect a lean sitemap that guides users to "Menu" or "Reservations" within two clicks.
Refined Aesthetic: Apply a palette of Cream (#f9f4e4) and Gold (#eebc18) with subtle parallax effects to modernize the look while retaining brand warmth.
Local SEO: Implement robust local schema and keyword-rich headlines ("Downtown Golden") to capture search traffic looking for dining options in the area.
Strategy & Approach
Phase 1: Audit & Consolidation
We started by scraping the existing site and condensing it into a lean, 6-page architecture. By merging the About and FAQ pages into a single, scannable resource with clear styling, we reduced navigation clutter and improved the user journey.
Phase 2: Visual & UX Design
To balance "high-end" with "welcoming," we implemented a full-width Hero section with dual CTA buttons. We utilized Afacad for headings and Open Sans for body text to ensure readability. Subtle JavaScript parallax effects were added to key sections to give the site depth and a modern feel without compromising performance.
Phase 3: Integration & Optimization
We focused on friction-free booking by embedding the Tock reservation widget directly into the flow. On the Menu page, we added dietary tags and "Chef’s Pick" highlights to guide decision-making. Finally, we implemented LocalBusiness schema to ensure Google recognized the restaurant's location and hours accurately.
