Project Overview
Giving a Local Favorite Its Own Identity

The Hive is a rustic, farm-to-table outdoor dining destination nestled within Historic Greenbrier Farms. While the restaurant had a loyal following, its digital presence was buried as a sub-page on the farm’s main website. This limited their ability to showcase their unique culinary voice, seasonal specials, and laid-back energy as a distinct brand.

The mission was to execute a strategic decoupling. We needed to build a standalone digital home for The Hive that captured its specific "rustic charm" and community vibe, while maintaining enough visual continuity with the parent farm brand to ensure long-time guests felt right at home.

Challenges & Goals
The Challenges

Brand Dependency: The restaurant lived in the shadow of the main farm website; extracting it into a standalone brand required a delicate balance of distinction and continuity.

Asset Translation: The client needed to translate the hand-drawn, organic feel of their logo and physical location into a structured web layout without it looking "messy."

Content Gaps: Moving from a single page to a full site meant we needed to generate SEO-rich copy and lifestyle content from scratch to fill the new architecture.

The Goals

Visual Synergy: Extract a palette of Off-White (#fdfdf1) and Black to maintain an organic, minimal feel that aligns with the farm’s existing aesthetic.

Typography Pairing: Utilize Great Vibes (calligraphy) and Poppins (sans-serif) to mirror the logo’s mix of elegance and approachability.

Search Authority: Implement robust SEO for specific food and drink keywords to ensure The Hive ranks as a dining destination, not just a farm attraction.

Strategy & Approach
Phase 1: Rustic Minimalist Design

We recreated the existing page layout but expanded it into a full immersive experience. Using the extracted #fdfdf1 off-white background, we created a clean, distraction-free canvas that allows the food photography and the natural beauty of the farm setting to take center stage.

Phase 2: Content & Copywriting

We developed a comprehensive content strategy to flesh out the new site. I wrote brand-aligned copy emphasizing "rustic charm" and "community vibes," creating original descriptions for food and drink specials based on provided imagery. This narrative approach transformed a menu list into a compelling dining invitation.

Phase 3: Operational UX

Since the location is on a working farm, wayfinding was critical. We prioritized specific Calls-to-Action (CTAs) for "Get Directions" and "View Menu" to ensure visitors could easily find the venue. We also integrated a "Become a VIP" section to start building a dedicated marketing list separate from the general farm newsletter.
