Project Overview
A Fiesta of Flavor in Downtown Harvard
For over six years, Jalapeño Brothers has been the heartbeat of downtown Harvard, IL, celebrated for its authentic recipes, creative twists, and lively weekend karaoke nights. However, their digital presence failed to invite guests to the party. The existing website was functional but flat, missing the "playful yet classic" personality that defined the family-owned brand and failing to drive engagement for their diverse service offerings.
The mission was to translate their heritage-rich atmosphere into a vibrant digital experience. We needed to capture the fun of a karaoke night and the authenticity of their kitchen while streamlining the user journey to boost online orders, catering inquiries, and private event bookings.

Brand Alignment: The challenge was to balance a "playful" vibe with a professional interface—using vibrant colors and scripts without overwhelming the user or looking amateurish.
Feature Discovery: Critical revenue streams like Catering, Hiring, and Private Events were buried in the old navigation, leading to missed opportunities.
Local Performance: The site suffered from poor mobile speed and low visibility for competitive keywords like "best Mexican food in Harvard, IL."
The Goals
Visual Vibrancy: Develop a custom palette blending Navy (#0a3678), Teal (#02ba9f), and Gold (#f9ce2d) to reinforce the brand's cultural heritage.
Conversion Pathways: Implement a streamlined homepage hierarchy with prominent Calls-to-Action (CTAs) for Ordering and Booking.
Digital Autonomy: Build the site within the Popmenu CMS to ensure the client could manage menus and events independently post-launch.
Strategy & Approach
Phase 1: Visual & Brand Design
We moved away from generic templates to a custom brand expression. We paired Lexend Exa for modern clarity with a handwritten script font to add warmth. We introduced subtle tile-inspired background patterns and playful iconography (jalapeños, maracas) to visually communicate the restaurant's fun atmosphere without clutter.
Phase 2: Information Architecture
We restructured the site to prioritize action. The homepage was designed as a central hub, featuring a hero section with signature dishes and immediate options to "Order Now" or "Book Private Event." A sticky navigation bar ensures that key links—Online Ordering, Menu, and Contact—are never more than a click away.
Phase 3: Technical Optimization
We engineered the site for local dominance. This involved writing SEO-driven copy with location-specific keywords and implementing descriptive alt tags for all images. We also optimized the load times by lazy-loading high-resolution hero images, ensuring the mobile experience was fast and fluid.
